Ampicillin is a broad-spectrum β -lactam antibiotic suitable for a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.  

Drug for the broad - spectrum semi-synthetic penicillin, very low toxicity.  The antibacterial spectrum is similar to penicillin, the effect of penicillin sensitive bacteria is lower, and the antibacterial effect of streptococcus viridis is similar to penicillin or slightly stronger.  Diphtheria bacilli, tetanus bacilli and actinomycetes its efficacy is basically the same as penicillin.
