Details
Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug of oxicam class which don't have carboxylic group but acid due to the enolic 4-hydroxy substituent. Its structure is closely related to that of piroxicam. Meloxicam is used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, dysmenorrhoea, pyrexia and as an analgesic. Meloxicam selectively inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 over cyclooxygenase-1. It is a yellow crystalline powder; practically insoluble in water, very slightly soluble in methanol; readily soluble in strong acids and bases; administered orally. Chemical designation is 4-Hydroxy-2-methyl-N-(5-methyl-2-thiazolyl)-2H-1,2-benzothiazine-3- carboxamide 1,1-dioxide.
Used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and painful osteoarthritis ( degenerative joint disease, bone and joint disease ) treatment.
