Pyriproxyfen is an insect growth regulator recently developed by Japan's Sumitomo Chemical Company. It has the characteristics of high efficiency, less dosage, long lasting effect, safety to crops, low toxicity to fish, and little impact on the ecological environment. It is a third-generation insecticide with potential for development. and registered in some European countries.

Mechanism
Experiments have shown that the inhibitory effect of this product on insects is manifested in affecting the transformation and reproduction of insects. Toxicological tests on Spodoptera litura show that the presence of high concentrations of pyriproxyfen in the hemolymph accelerates the secretion of prothymic sex hormones in insects; Inhibit embryo development and egg hatching, or generate inactive eggs, so as to effectively control and achieve the purpose of pest control.

biological activity
Pyriproxyfen is a juvenile hormone-type chitin synthesis inhibitor with strong ovicidal effect. It is a highly effective insecticide against sweet potato whiteflies and scale insects. The female adults of sweet potato whitefly were placed on cotton leaves treated with SPpm, which resulted in the production of nonviable eggs after 48 hours. These adult females were transferred to untreated tablets, and the drug was maintained for 6 days. Treating the second instar larvae with 0.05-5.00ppm of this product completely prevented the emergence of adult larvae. These larvae secreted honeydew at the same level when controlled before colony formation, and a sharp decrease in honeydew secretion was observed later. Pyriproxyfen also has systemic transfer activity, which can affect larvae hidden on the underside of leaves. For mosquito and fly hygiene pests , the later 4th instar larvae is a more sensitive stage . Low doses of this product caused the death of the pupation stage and inhibited the formation of adults. For example, 0.3ppm of this product applied to housefly can inhibit the emergence of pupae by 10%. Its insecticidal activity is higher than that of methoprene and deworming veins, and the duration of effect is longer, up to more than one month. Pyriproxyfen is mainly used to control public health pests such as mosquitoes, flies, fleas, and fleas. In particular, its granules can be directly put into sewage pools or evenly spread on the surface of mosquito breeding grounds, which is more convenient to use.
